This is all too nice and flashy, good to see that MA specialists can use
anything as a weapon. But they’re also missing the point completely: These
techniques are physically demanding and don’t account for limited mobility,
strength and stamina of advanced age. There you need to remember that the
first line of defense is try to avoid physical conflict in the first place.
Second line of defense needs to be getting assistance. And finally if
conflict is inevitable, then the first strike also needs to be the final
one. Strikes to temples, philtrum or Adam’s apple should be preferred,
followed by groin and bottom of ribcage as secondary target of choice.
Performed by a physically fit person these could be lethal but to many
elderly these are the only chance to disable a much more fit attacker.

Consecutively a defensive cane should contain a silent alarm with GPS
locator to alert nearby police patrols or neighborhood watch and possibly a
dose of pepper spray.

dear Peaceful Warriors,
first of all thank you this quiet interesting, however if you are going to
talk about real seniors I suggest that you make you demonstrations more
real. Your demonstration partner showed punch for you not off center to
your left. Keep up the good work and safe training

WTF says:

toooo many moves simple is better especially if tou need the cane to stand
on your feet

Christopher Yee says:

What do you do if they actually punch at you and them move afterwards?

noax962 says:

Best comment so far…I tip my hat to you sir

noax962 says:

Not everyone lives in a country that allows guns…Like here in UK…if the
cops think you dont need a cane, they will take it off you…yes it can be
classed as an offensive weapon in UK so you gotta have something wrong with
you…or like my friend get a criminal record, cos he had a solid walking
stick with a metal handle he didnt “actually” need. And he wasn’t a bad
guy…he was humble and only wanted something for self-defense as he isn’t
a fighter.

gareth meanock says:

Great vid helps alot in these dsys

TheSlegathor says:

just use the cane to give him a good smack in the goodie gum drops thats
what i do to the young hoodlums.

DarthTwilight says:

I have to agree survivalreality. Apply combat speed, and all of these super
precise movements fall apart at the seams.

Andy Zelaya says:

When i refer to real fight scenario i do mean the uncompromising reality of
a street attack/fight. Not two people squaring up to trade blows. I am a
nightclub bouncer by profession, and violence is just something that i have
to be familiar with. Its always important when teaching “self defense” that
you keep the techniques based in reality, otherwise you may unintentionally
leave your students unprepared. I do appreciate your techniques for the
art, and i agree that movement is important.

fatmike78 says:

This is terrible, Im a disabled person forced to use a cane for
balance.Everything Ive seen her requires 2 to 3 moves and at least one
shift of balance. If a person requires a cane they are in someway disabled
I assure you. So shifting balance and using 2 to 3 moves and the last or
disabling move is always toward the end. In other words if you had a cane
and disabled, I would beat the shit out of you between moves 1 and 2. Don’t
give people false hope with these bullshit tactics. Its just wrong.

jake gaiger says:

this goes against everything true martial arts teaches like stated before
too many moves Bruce Lee would be turning in his grave if I had to go
through all this I would just fork over 80 bucks and buy a zap Kane 1
million volts at the end of the 36 inch Kane press the button hit him with
the bottom he drops like a rock none of the BS weight shifting multiple
moves I’m disabled and I can barely walk on my cane to try to use it as a
weapon I would just fall on my butt

Kevin Koyle says:

You use a cane often in the Bouncer industry?

ThePeacefulWarriors says:

You must always realize that NO preset techniques are ever applicable on
the street, however they do teach the most important thing which is
movement.. Also the term real fight scenario also means people who have
agreed to do battle. Self defense is a different animal 🙂

Naturemanguy92 says:

@fatmike78 might I suggest a gun. And I agree

SurvivalReality says:

Use a training cane and sparing gear and do this full speed. You may find
none of that works if someone is really trying to punch you in the head.

VTSifuSteve says:

Andy Zelaya was being very kind. The sequences demonstrated were overly
complicated and inefficient to the extreme. They would be downright
dangerous to attempt in self defense. And@fatmike 78, don’t worry, there
are plenty of better techniques that can be used by folks that are
disabled.

Andy Zelaya says:

Nice techniques but i just dont see them being applicable to a real fight
scenario.

Nathan Wood says:

Too true. However, I do agree that in practising techniques in this fashion
you learn the body mechanics required for a “real” situation. All set
techniques and defences are highly contrived, requiring just the right
attack and positioning. But understanding the basic mechanics behind them
is what counts and what will enable someone to have more tools in the
toolbox should the worst happen.

Kevin Koyle says:

Well canes as weapons in this manner aren’t meant for people who can’t walk.
