I watch these videos you post because they are good educational videos because these videos are our eyes of the world most of the time things are sight unseen that we have not seen yet

First step: ASSESS THE SITUATION

JG South-Africa says:

Yes you can't just jump in without knowing what's going on…

jaochaigob says:

Entering third party encounters can be fine, but you need to stop and take a moment to figure out what is going on.

bob smith says:

So the management of the store is overreacting to a public servants overreaction… the store hasnt learned the lesson it claims it is teaching

One of the few polls where the percentage difference between the two options is very close.

David Chiu says:

its ultimately still the perps fault
since w/o HIS CRIMINAL CHOICE the other misfortune
would not have occurred… still wise to take an extra moment
like getting into a position to catch a runner while deciding whos who

if it becomes a court case then the first point
is what your lawyer will have leverage w/ in persuading jurors

A cop jumping to conclusions 🤔

zerc1 says:

This video reminds me of the good samaritan that lost his life trying to stop a couple that killed two LEO's in Las Vegas a couple years ago. When the good guy intervened to stop the male shooter, he neglected to check if he had an accomplis, the bad guy's girlfriend shot the good guy point blank from behind and killed him. If you want to intervene in a third party altercation, don't just rush in without knowing at least who the belligerents are and what is at stakes.

Shaun G says:

Stepping in on 3rd Party Encounters is okay if you see the whole incident unfold and know what's going on. Or a very obvious situation. But I'm wondering why the mop guy appears to be making the floor dirtier…

killerwar1 says:

The one video that really hit me hard was one posted maybe half a year ago, when there was a women who was being brutality stabbed while everyone just stood around and watched.

av8rr says:

Best way to get involved is be a good witness and call police. That is what they tell off duty law enforcement to do unless it's life and death situation.

USMC03 says:

Got to know what's going on before you do anything

Francisco Tizoctzin V says:

Great advice and knowledge.

get off my lawn says:

As a LEO for 25 years, I agree: think very hard before intervening in a 3rd party incident. I can't say it enough. I've seen so many people jammed up for doing what they thought was the right thing. If you aren't familiar with the players and don't know what's going on, stay out of it. Many well-intended people are doing prison time because of what they THOUGHT they saw.

Levi Godwin says:

I believe you should always ask around or try to figure out what is going on if it's just fists to cuffs. As you said in the video it's unreasonable to just pick, and rush one person without taking any time to figure out what is going on.

Zach Mutter says:

"terrible stuff" not really john you might becoming desensitized in your analysis… lets take a step back and compare whats really going on here.

Peter Janis says:

John with your general "rules" you preach over and over on the channel like being careful in 3rd party, keep tools on you, five D's +1, staying off the x, etc etc.. is there anything that you have changed your mind on over the years? any footage or events that has changed the way you think about things after starting the channel?

Liam McAdam says:

criminal investigation of this guy for trying to do the right thing.

turbodieseldumptruck says:

I think he was lucky he tackled the loss prevention office who is obviously an honest and understanding guy (for not sueing him for neglence/assault). I don't care what anyone says, it wasn't worth hurting anyone, including the thief, for $70 worth of merchandise. I'm no bleeding heart, but the punishment has to fit the crime. Holding a person's arms while launching them to the ground with enough force to cause serious and lasting injury is without question excessive (and really ignorant). If he tackled the thief in this manner, he would most likely be sued for assault and using excessive force. Sadly, the thief would have a strong case if that had happened. How many zeros is that worth on a settlement… Not worth it to get involved in this one. He had no dog in this fight. Running into the danger? Not exactly covering your ASP. RUN AWAY BEFORE SOMEONE STARTS SHOOTING!…If no one's life is in danger, It is always best to butt out. Just one person's opinion…

What a moron

If that was brazil, the off-duty officer would have killed everybody at the scene. 🙂

Gavin Painter says:

Great take down though!!

mastergee200 says:

Hot headed idiot

jim surfnfish 808 says:

He rushed to help, but didn't take the time to see who was the bad guy, if the guy who was trying to subdue thief was armed he might have thought hero was with perp and shot him thinking he's dealing with multiple bad guys. I know things happen fast in these encounters but you need to take a second to asses what's going on before jumping in.

Sam says:

Check your hero white knight mentality, self defenders. All the comment sections show there are plenty of ASP watchers like this. It's why John teaches skills and plan. Attitude alone will get results like this.

DanksFoSHo says:

Of course its not reasonable, jumping into third party encounters without any info is like shooting a gun in a room full of people while blind. Reminds me of the guy that got shot by police for breaking up a fight all because he had a gun on his hip.
