It's rather scary to think for a good 15-20 second the officer had his back turned to this criminal without even knowing it. (I know he had a shotgun not a rifle) but he could have ambushed this officer very easily. Glad this garbage of a human is no longer around to hurt anyone else again.
The cop did very well, the only thing I see is if I had been the cop, I would have grabbed a long gun, going up against a man with a shotgun with your handgun is a big disadvantage.

Great relaying of scene safety information from officer to firefighters immediately. Even if the officer thinks/knows that fire dispatch was advised of subject with a gun in the same area of the structure fire, he chose to ensure this vital info was relayed ‘immediately’ upon fires arrival. To all EMS personnel, remember Scene Safety. If you were on that apparatus and were notified that there was an armed subject in that area, what are your choices? What are your choices once shots are fired while you are there? Think about scenarios like this before they happen (management can do this in CEs, individual partners can run ideas during shifts, preceptors can include this as part of intern training. There are many opportunities to go over scene safety throughout your career. Stay safe. Great job officer for surveying the scene Immediately surrounding the firefighters and great shooting. You usually only get one chance to subdue an armed suspect.
Pretty impressive. That cop got it done. There was a huge chance that killer would have hurt others if he had not been spotted and taken down so quickly.
Great job, he had great eyesight because the murderer was lying in dark clothes in a dark area away from artificial lights. I hope the officer received a commendation for this.
