A Medical Bag, a Shield, a Self-Defense Technique and Hickok45

We look at a new bug out bag, talk about the three medical killers, review the M&P Shield, demo a self-defense technique or two, and pay homage to Hickok45; kind of… Music – Distant Ocean – from stock music – Microsoft Photos You can contact Greg at [email protected] DISCLAIMER: All state and local laws were followed in making this video. Guys – sorry about the music looping all the way through. I use music for different reasons – to set a pace, to create drama, to hide background noise etc. I recently had a complaint about the country/folk music I like to use. No problem. I try to look at the big picture. However, over recent videos I've been noticing a background squealing that sounds like metal. I'm not talking about the crickets indigenous to the southeast in the background. I believe it is the Photo Editing software I am having to use because when I use the music library that comes with the software; I don't hear this sound. Unfortunately the library is rather limited and until I upgrade my technology, you'll probably be hearing the same pieces of music over and over again.

Pretty dang close to my bag that I got off eBay! Mine has a “secret” compartment that has a velcro closure where a J-frame fits perfectly. Once closed up it’s pretty well hidden.

Common Sense says:

Enjoy the video as usual. I like your windmill motions what form of martial arts is that?

Hair Dryer works miracles when installing a Hogue Handall Rubber Grip. Nice grappling moves, Hapkido? BTW I like the background music. 👍

Thanks for anouther great video. When it comes to various grab bags I tend to avoid anthing tactical or ninga looking, OD green, camo print, black or decals and stickers that suggest what is inside. I would rather keep a handgun in a red container labeled jumper cables than a black one that has a S&W or Glock logo. It mite avoid a problem. If I cant get a gun to shoot point of impact equal point of aim i will get rid of it and find one that will. Under stress I will never remember to hold 5 inches left at 7 yards, 10 inches at 14 yards, 15 inches at 21 yards. Add a confusing, dynamic situation where even a brief instant of center mass site picture presents, lets just say the simpler my task the better . Not a time i want to be guessing distances and hold off. I will have plenty of reasons why i miss, before i get to the gun not having correct zero. I really appreciate the demonstration of the tactical moves. As for the music, my only comment is I am glad you keep the volume down. I am not a fan of the high volume techno beat ear assault garbage all to common now days.

great vid, thanks so much Greg! I too own a Shield in 9mm, but I am very ambivalent about it… I shoot it poorly, always down and left. I'm pretty sure its my bad technique, but I'm going to take it to the range next week and check the sights. .. hoping its the sights and not me, but not optimistic 🙂

Prayers for you and your family as Dorian approaches.

I have a old day pack from my time in the army I have it loaded with a similar first aid kit and an MRE and some water and a straw to purify water if need be. Basic fighting gear like a knife and extra ammo for my old Taurus model 85. It’s a good reliable small but effective gun if I need it. It fits in there like a glove. Good video.

Frank Butta says:

I saw a guy shoot a fist size group at 25 yards with a Shield. 👍

Bryan Board says:

Interesting on the Shield POA. Mine was dead on, right out of the box and is still the gun I am most accurate with, even though I also prefer to carry revolvers.

MrHolster says:

My father in law, who passed from cancer 4 years ago, had a Shield when it first came out. I made him a holster for it and decided I did not like the lack of barrel length because it did need to be that short and it did not sit in a holster well because of the short barrel. The longer barrel of the 4 inch XDS gives it a little weight forward and it sits better in a holster. The cylinder on a snubby revolver also makes it sit better in a holster then short barreled semi autos I feel. Just my opinions mind you.

ebsaint says:

Thanks for the tips, and the look at the cool B. O. B.
Also, take care with the upcoming storm.

treesablowin says:

I like the shield for sure

Fudmottin says:

Drifting dovetailed sights is a real pain without the right tool. While you could clamp the slide and use a nylon punch and mallet, you are liable to mar the finish on the slide and still not get it right. Since we are talking small adjustments here until you get it right, I recommend getting one of the less expensive "universal sight drifting" tools. Amazon, Midway and Brownell's carry them. I think you can go as low as about $40 for something that will work on that slide. As the tools get nicer, the prices go up fairly quickly. They are easier to use, especially if you are changing out the sights. The blocks that hold onto the slide need to have the loop side of velcro or something on them to protect the slide finish. Usually the tools provide something of that nature. Anyway, for a one time deal you can go cheap. If you anticipate sight adjustments or replacements on multiple semi-auto pistols, go for one of the nicer tools. The cheap ones are still awkward. I learned this stuff in the famous hard knocks school. I know what if feels like to mar the finish on a slide. Mind you, I don't think of my firearms as simple hammers. There's a bit of pride of ownership going on, especially when I do a bit of customization. Some of me goes into the work. Anyway, go slow. You don't want to mess up the dovetail cut on the slide.

The Prepared Norseman says:

Nice bag, Greg! And too bad about those sights. Smith and Wesson won't do anything to fix it? Here is an idea for a future video, evaluating safe backdrop to your self defense engagement 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

Bob Hartman says:

I was at the range over the weekend and a military buddy has a shield he wanted me to shot. It shot great but the front sight was off center, just like yours.

Edward Petty says:

I carry the 9mm Shield. Nice concealment piece, and I too have difficulty re-holstering it.

The PNW Rider says:

I have problems with the small autos. I find the small grips very hard to manage. A J frame is much easier find a set of grips you like and it’s good.

Josh Benware says:

The parry may look weak, but it is very effective. I was pretty good with it when I use to box. Even a light tap to the side of the wrist will completely throw their punch off its path. Its also fun because it frustrates the living hell out of people😅

Stephen says:

Can you send it back for the factory to align the sight?

Will knowdoggs says:

I like the bag, plenty of room for a medical kit and a handgun. The Shield wouldn't be my choice, but to each their own.

timmybmn says:

Sweet you got it! You're welcome buddy! Edit: What do you think of the holster pouch on the bag?
