@MartialArtsJourney says:

Hey everyone! There's been a lot of talk in the comments about Jeff Chan's pulled kick in the Shank Tank and I wanted to address the subject.

Even though during the filming of the Shank Tank I was in a separate room sick with Covid and had no call in which fights were stopped, and even though I was part of the judging team after the event was filmed and I was giving the lead to more experienced judges, I can't say I can get off without any blame for how Jeff Chan's Shank Tank was scored.

I didn't oppose the pulled kick being counted as a "not effective enough" shot, but I can totally see now that it would had been fair to give Jeff Chan a win for it and even perhaps for his use of the Atomic Bear self-defense pen. But you also have to understand something.

It's blowing my mind how much attention the show is receiving right now and I couldn't be more happy about it. But at the same time – it's still a completely new show! To my knowledge nothing even remotely similar has been done on the same scale. And as with any new project – something will get f**d up along the way even with the best of intentions.

I mean, no judging has ever been perfect or made everyone happy! Take a look at some of the UFC, boxing fights or any other sport. You will always get heated discussions on how something was judged. But that doesn't mean no improvements should be made.

Feedback and growing from feedback and mistakes has always been a hugely important part of my life. It's not out of nowhere I decided to quit Aikido and move on to combat sports and practical self-defense. It was mainly because I listened to smarter-than-me people who explained to me that that's the best option if I wanted to continue growing in my martial arts journey.

So trust me when I say this: I am listening to you and improvements will be made in the future (if we'll get enough funding to make future seasons happen that is πŸ˜‚).

There's nothing I can do right now to change what happened in season 2, or in season 1. But we already listened to a lot of feedback from season 1 and used it to make improvements in season 2. And I can confidently say, that the same will be done here.

I'm sorry to Jeff Chan and to all of Jeff Chan's fans out there (I know there are many of you!) for the bad call. I'm in talks with Jeff Chan about this and he totally gets what happened. And I promise to you I will make it up for him in the future.

But now, we gotta live with the decisions that were already made. Enjoy the show as it is (since it's actually kinda a miracle this show exists to begin with!) and learn from our mistakes to make the future seasons even better (which I will pour my heart into in order to make it happen).

Thanks for reading this big 'ol wall of text and keep owning your journey πŸ™

PS: A lot of people were asking for Craig's Shank Tank song. I love it too! Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mxkl5B5ZcK0

After Natans kick my jaw dropped

@flyingjakob3486 says:

Really cool video! It really changes your perspective on knife attacks. I do think every participant had the wrong idea on how to handle the situation. I'm definatly not an expert in knife fights nor have i been in one or trained like this so dont flame me xD It seemed like everyone tried to knock the attacker out but realisticly after getting cut and stabbed like that you are probably dead after only 3-4 cuts. Even if its not lethal you will lose strenght and mental power being sliced up like that even with the adrenalin pumping.

If i was attacked my number one concern would be to control the knife and not try to knock the attacker out. Firstly control the arm/hand that has the knife and then try to disarm . Sure, getting a kick to the head would solve the problem, but as seen in the video everyone still got 5-30 cuts. I only saw Nathan actually trying to control and disarm but the attacker somehow managed to swap the knife to other hand and stab him.

RANTONI LETS GOOOO!!

@ratatat9790 says:

This looks fking stupid.

@nwren4637 says:

Natan had the aggression and Jesse had great use of the pen item. Craig was fun!

@TheDoomWizard says:

Damn so basically just carry a gun

@BlacksmithBets says:

It was interesting to see the normal guy was the only one who went towards the knife weilder aggressively which made the attacker hesitate.

@Damalycus says:

The guy at 15:20 went all out holywood!

@KevinDuan7 says:

Crazy how it seems like a back kick has been pretty effective in knife defense across both seasons of this show so far- seems like for all the flak that they get they definitely have their uses.

@Sedefsweetpie says:

All heroes enjoyed the show. This is far better than UFC❀

@socksincrocks4421 says:

Lesson to self, move to a conceal carry state.

@ShouvikMukherjee0-_-0 says:

Lads this is awesome stuff… I dunno how this got recommended to me. But I'm glad it did.
A few weeks ago a friend got mugged late at night at knife point, he complied and got roughed up by 3 men but came out with minor bruises. He's fine now.
This USDC series is giving me ideas and tips to how to actually be safe in those kinda situations.
Good work

Nathan was holding back. He still won.

This is brutal to watch, and this guys are trained fighters or australians, i pose no chance

@yt_hatescrime_data4301 says:

The problem i recognized with all these mma guys is instead of focusing 100% of thier effort and both hands to the attackers arm/hand with the knife they were fighting for position and or trying to strike the attacker or wrestler the attacker. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ 🀯

@BrunoMunhoz1997 says:

Next time, please, please get a old school Brazilian guy to represent BJJ.
A guy that got roots to BJJ on the time that its was a more defense martial arts, time when vale tudo was rising.
Not a guy that is going to sit on a scenario of 1v1 closed enviroment.

@kallepikku4991 says:

Attacker-1 to Natan:
"If you want to knock me the f**k out, then knock me the f**k out!"

Natan: just barely misses Attacker-1 with Spinning Back Kick (due to A1's incredible, yet unrealistic wall jump).

Natan: KOs Attacker-2 with Spinning Back Kick, and sends him to hospital. πŸ€•

Attacker-1: Dayumn, that was close! 😰

Attacker-3: Comes out super timid. Loses all momentum in his attacks. πŸ₯Ά No aggression.

@Middlestepofficial says:

When I was being taught in the special forces how to fight in different situations, I remember an old officer once said "use anything you can find as a weapon and don't expect that you'll ever come out of the fight unharmed".

@SpadesGamesTV says:

That spinning back kick was a winner! Great shot! Funny how that laying down defense was done by the Ogre in Baki Hanma πŸ˜‚ Great idea. Go for the knees though.

@micahstrange2792 says:

seeing craig makes me smile

@kallepikku4991 says:

For the guys criticizing not giving Jeff a score for the pulled back High Kick, consider this:
Untrained person throws a full power High Kick with no damage. Should we also give him a point?

Jeff knew the attacker is wearing a protective helmet, and could've gone much harder on the kick. Yes, I totally agree that Jeff, if anyone, as definite KO power in his kicks, and I feel like her got robbed here. BUT that does not mean we should automatically give a point for just throwing high kicks to the head. Otherwise, any regular mystic-kungfu guy with no power could simply claim "I could've hurt you guys but I decided not to". That's definitely NOT the point of this self-defense exercise.

@Dibbles115 says:

The regular guy has a really good idea, controlling the knife hand as much as possible

@elnapo3625 says:

bro pulled out the tactic your little brother used to fight

@avgytenjoyer91 says:

21:53 is like the most egregious ai photo I have ever seen, how tf did that slip by producers? like it's so bad lol

@jeffreydamonte67 says:

Jordan’s strategy reminds me of Renzo Gracie v Oleg Taktarov

@kallepikku4991 says:

Natan sees Jeff pulling back a High Kick and getting scored zero for compassion.

Natan: "Omae wa shinderu!"
Unleashes Spinning Back Kick from hell. πŸ’₯

@kallepikku4991 says:

Jordan finally representing true bjj. Been waiting for this for 3 episodes! ❀ All those years of practicing butt scooting finally pays off!
