If you were to choose a .22 LR handgun for personal defense, primary carry or backup, what type of ammo do you think is most effective? This is the first in …

Wow ! I really do not understand most of you guys who think a .22 LR pistol
is a good choice for self defense. I have shot a truckload of small game
with it and it is only adequate with precise shot placement.Shoot a
groundhog in the chest with one and then shoot a groundhog with a 9mm. Do
you notice a difference? With the .22 it is going to make it back to its
hole at least 50 percent of the time and a 9mm will leave it dead where it
was shot. If you guys insist on using a .22 rimfire at least upgrade to a
.22 magnum. Their is a drastic difference on small game with the .22
magnum. Of course in a pistol the velocity gain will be considerably less
but you are getting much more effective bullets with the .22 mag. There are
a few 9 shot revolvers on the market and I would load it with 4 solids and
5 ballistic tips. The solids are for better penetration against barriers
and the ballistic tips will create massive amounts of damage to flesh
compared to anything the .22LR can muster. The difference in point of
impact will not matter at defensive pistol ranges. I would not opt for the
PMR-30 as it seems overpriced and prone to the occasional jam.

What am I doing with my life?

SalveMonesvol says:

Great gun and caliber for training, and training is more decisive than the
gun or caliber. However, for personal defense… please don’t trust your
life to a .22. Yes, they will EVENTUALLY kill the agressor, but you want
the fastest incapacitation possible.
I’d recommend to carry a full size 9mm, and a hot one. Underwood has some
good 115 gr hollow point with 500+ ft. lbs. of energy. With training even a
60kg woman can handle it, it’s a common and cheap”ish” caliber, high
capacity options, etc…

WxGuy says:

Love how the video is 5.56…

FYL Production says:

price?

tiffsaver says:

There’s no question that shooting and controlling a small caliber weapon is
easier for the young or less fit. And no one can dispute their accuracy.
Not to mention that the .22LR is the preferred round for professional
assassins, if that’s your occupation. But if you’re faced with a large,
determined, or wacked-out crack head banging on your door who’s NOT a
Jehovah’s Witness, I’d rather being packing a Mossberg filled with 00 buck,
or my trusty, old .45 auto. During WWII, the military round of choice was
the .38, that is until an entire regiment of Marines was overrun by a pack
of pissed off, machete-wielding natives with nothing to lose. The Army
quickly switched to the .45 ACP, for good reason. I only wonder why this
guy has never even mentioned the term, “stopping power” in his entire
video?

EvilJ069 says:

I stopped watching when he said “More faster”

gun nut says:

The .22lr is a deadly lil round my great uncle was killed by one they don’t
have any knock down power but they bounce around inside and mess everything
up he was shot in his chest and the bullet stopped just below his left ear

Nonya Busnezz says:

Not sure why people badmouth a 22? If you want a bigger gun, then get
one. But I firmly believe you should carry a gun you can fire accurately
and confidently. If someone is going to be missing shots because their
.380, 9mm, 40, or 45 is kicking in their scared hand, then they are doing
no good. Trust me, if you put a 22 into a guy and it doesnt kill him I
100% assure you he will rethink his attack/robbery/whatever.

alec guiness says:

the.22lr round does not feel powerful, it is so small too…not very
credible…but a knife wound is scary isn’t it? The damage from a .22LR is
worst than a knife wound, not a .308 but…good enough.

sc4r3cr0w1 says:

i like my ruger sr22 the ammo it aint big like 9mm 357 ect but the gun
comes with 2 magazine each magazine hold 10 round so 20 all together u had
dude or women running at u. im pretty sure 10 rounds might not kill you
but is going to hurt and slow you down,

Kristyn K says:

I agree with nodresiak 110%.
22lr out of a short barrel handgun lacks velocity than say a ruger 10/22.
You can use ur wimpy 40 grain bullet, I’ll stick to my 165 grain 40 s&w
rounds.

Ross Salupo says:

A 22 certainly can kill I don’t think it should be a first choice for
defense if it is all you have or can control it will work with proper shot
placement head shots heart etc if you can get rapid multiple hits in those
areas you will stop the threat if not you more than likely won’t if they
have a weapon it could prove fatal to you.

David Charles says:

Would agree if the pistol was far more compact.

mike tid says:

22lr isn’t the biggest round that’s for sure but i don’t think anyone wants
to be hit by one. Bottom line use what you can hit with does no good to
shoot a 357 if you can’t hit squat with it. 22lr isn’t the best round but
it beats no rounds at all and if you can hit with it the intruder will
surely have second thoughts if you don’t incapacitate him.

MrWorldbefree says:

why don’t you guys google ” woman shot intruder 9 times in self defense”.
She shot him with a .22 mag and he ran out the house and died in the front
yard this happened in Gwinett county, Ga

JohnnyRotten says:

Of all the deaths caused by firearms the .22 has the most. The 9mm gets
used the most in shootings but doesnt come close to having as many kills as
the .22

CHeWy says:

I have owned so many .22`s. Sure, for self defense someone likt a 9mm is a
lot better. But if someone was attacking me and all i had was a Ruger .22
pistol. I wouldnt be worried.

Albert Head says:

By the way, you’d have a hard time convincing a jury that it was
self-defence at 25yds. 10 feet would be a more realistic self-defence range
and the .22 would work adequately at that range.

iconaclastor says:

had a guy I knew who was Israeli trained shooting instructor for a Central
American country. Told me a 22 can often penetrate body armor because of
its smaller size when larger bullets are absorbed by the armor. I am
seriously considering the 22 magnum for personal protection. Ammo is low
cost and the a Kel Tec model can hod 30 rounds in the clip

RM chain says:

Good information thanks. Can you tell me where to find CCI 22lr shot shell
in bulk? Cant find it anywhere in the Houston area.

Brian Carroll says:

Great video, and unbiased opinions.

theseventhday says:

I like your videos and you are very well spoken, good job

Matthew Koch says:

Good video, I feel safe with a .22 pistol. That is definitely high
penetration and it doesn’t need to “drop” the villain to be effective, pain
is quite a good deterrent. I hope I never need to fire to protect myself or
my husband, but if I did, I could with this type of gun because I can group
my shots well.

Draco Masters says:

I think .22 LR is a perfect round for a very small self defense gun, like
the little Berettas. At close range a .22 LR will destroy a human brain
better than any other round, it will enter the front skull but bounce off
the back skull and just bounce around. I could see the practicality of the
larger frame pistols in .22 LR for a woman or anyone with weak wrist, but i
would try and convince them to go with a .32 ACP semi auto, like the Kel
Tec p-32 or an large J frame .38 revolver.

Tommaso Petrella says:

I think this will be good for home self defence, especially for young or
small framed women. If they can become a good shot with this weapon, which
should be easy with a 22 lr, a robber will 90% or more of the time run
after getting shot a couple times. Just my opinion.

Arutima says:

Most self defense handguns back at the end of the 19th and beginning of the
20th century were .22 LR and .38 special

ultor says:

well spoken and not overlong very informative video. great job!

Mark Johnson says:

Not to denigrate the almighty .45ACP, but the .22LR has been shown to have
killing power at over 450 yards. Not too many self defense situations
require that kind of distance (just kidding here, none require it). What
has to be kept in mind is that a small, accurately fired round will end up
with the same effect (stopping the attack) as a larger, harder to work
round. If you want true knock down power, you will NEED something larger
than a handgun round, starting with a 5.56 out of a 16″ barrel. I prefer a
9mm over a .22, but sometimes can only carry the .22. That’s why I
practice with both.

rick artuso says:

And if I’m attacked I’m emptying my clip not just shooting once.

Eric Gossick says:

I doc told me once the issue behind the .22 is that it bounces around in
the body unlike other calibers. Where it goes in and where it stops are
often never the same place. The .22 is a caliber that women can have
confidence firing without worry about the recoil.

Sir Vego says:

Never underestimate the 22 LR. Shot placement is a tad more critical, but
dead is dead! Nice group for rapid fire.

Jerkz hotrock says:

how much sir?

Mark Seaborn says:

Great Video

Larry De Vaughn says:

Long as your placement of the bullet is on point it will be a kill shot.
