During an altercation, don’t lose your cane, otherwise the aggressor will turn on you.

Whistle: In 1970's Chicago, we had Project WhistleStop. Everyone carried a small plastic whistle to blow in case of trouble. We'd sit outside our house in Southside Chicago on summer nights and listen for whistles……between the gunshots. We were cautioned to keep them on a keychain rather than a cord around the neck, as an attacker gripping the cord not only cuts off the whistle, it strangles you! Also, keep in mind the story of Kitty Genovise in NYC: supposedly, 34 people heard her screams and/or saw her being attacked, but nobody intervened and she died. Google it. Grip your umbrella like a fencing foil? If it's sticking our one handed in front of you, any attacker will grab it. Hold the handle under your armpit with your strong hand and the shaft of it about half-way up the shaft with your weak hand, and use a sudden forward lunge when the attacker is close enough. Aim for anywhere between the belly and the face. Video instructions can be found on the Internet!

Great advice on how seniors can REALLY PISS OFF their attacker and REALLY get killed. (Hot tip: a sharp jab in the gut with an umbrella is NOT going to send your attacker running like a child)❌❌❌
