@lebanamela5538 says:

Premier D. Ford is absolutely right. That “reasonable” clause sucks and it has to go!

@lebanamela5538 says:

Do away with that “reasonable” clause! That close is a hindrance to home duellers to defend their families , themselves and their property against intruders. Your home is your a sanctuary and it should be declared an inviolable place, unless, Justice has solid reasons to enter; no one else should enter uninvitedly.

@johnmacgillivray1321 says:

Bull💩, break in , you best be wearing a tie tag

@abobobilly says:

Does she even know the words coming out of her mouth ? Not a single point was made to explain the law, or what should be done.

@MrMcSquare-1 says:

The rules, and their interpretations are MOST OFTEN being made by people who have never actually been in these circumstances

@Aurorasflight86 says:

A wise person once told me: If a stranger breaks into a house when they know people are home, that means they're willing to hurt you. You shouldn't feel guilty defending yourself against someone who is willing to do you harm.

@Mike-z7w3x says:

The law is deliberately vague. There is no way to measure what is "Reasonable" but there is DEFINITELY a way to measure FORCE! Laws are really written to protect law-makers. Also, how is it that violence in response to words is protected for the invasive population, but local populations are routinely charged with "Hate Crimes" for having views which oppose those of the ruling class?

@Quoxozist says:

The real lesson here is, don't call the police – they are not your friends, they are not there to help you – their only concern is to lay charges, they don't actually care at all that you were assaulted, that your home was broken into – that's a separate set of charges, they don't even see the two things as related, which means they will treat victims as criminals in such a situation as a matter of course, without a second thought. DON'T TALK TO THE POLICE.

@paulrandolph8469 says:

It's all about the burden of proof. The burden of proof should be on the Crown to prove the homeowner/victim acted excessively. It is beyond absurd to put the burden on the homeowner/victim that they did not act excessively.

@DamonTsekos says:

He won three Majorities and is the most powerful Premier in Canada!…Why hasn't he made any changes to these laws in Ontario yet?…What a lying hypocrite!.

@Letsgetrealman says:

Doug, most police in Ontario are with the Ontario PROVINCIAL police. You have some pull here !!! Charges are at police discretion !!

@GeorgeNedelkoff says:

I didn't know , that in America you can do anything to defend your Home ?

@MrLenrager says:

So guilty until proven innocent….

@marceldagenais561 says:

Obviously she was never involve in a break in. The robber has NO business in your home!!!!

@bertlilley4988 says:

The owner should demand a trial by jury a jury of his piers

@GodofChaos2026 says:

Screw these lawmakers they can't arrest all of us.

@Neelroa says:

The law says we can do anything thats reasonable? Excuse me, but if a home invasion is occuring you're not thinking about precise counter measures that are appropriate and proportionate!! You're thinking the worst and protecting your family's life. I'd like see a Judge experience this and see how they fare

@andrewh2u says:

We COMPLETELY DO need to change the Laws in favor of homeowners defence because relying upon Provincial authorities or prosecutors or the police to exercise 'good' judgement does not set a uniform standard for protection of the homeowner. In this particular case the intruder had a crossbow which he shot at the homeowner and two accomplices outside who ran once the homeowner mounted a defence!! If you are awoken by intruders in your home at night then it is crazy to ask you to assess the 'reasonableness and proportionality' of your defensive measures: do they have a gun, are there many of them, are they gonna run if I shout or fill me and my family with lead —- there is no time for running a risk assessment by which time you and maybe your family will become a nasty statistic – ITS ALL IN AND ASSUME THE WORST IF YOU DONT TERMINATE THE THREAT ABSOLUTELY.
