Self Defense For Women Tips

Self-defense in the Victorian and Edwardian era was often taught with the walking cane and the umbrella. Today the walking stick is not often in use if it is not a walking aid for seniors, veterans or other limited people, but an umbrella is often carried. Col. Thomas Monstery taught a easy to learn method of stick fighting. As a fencing master he is well educated in weapon based martial arts as well as in boxing. Monstery was active in Chicago and NY city to teach the noble society to defend themselves in the street. In this video we will have a closer look at his advise for self defence with an ordinary umbrella. He used it in the bayonet grip only to bring powerfull thrusts to the aggressor. But not only Gentlemen could use umbrella, it is quite perfect for women self-defence, as it is a weapon and equalizer to men strength. Col. Monstery could tell a story of a woman defending herself against an assault of a man with her parasol! It dont have to be an unbreakable umbrella to be usefull. Col. Thomas Monstery was not the only ex military promoting bayonet grip style umbrella for self defense for women, over half a century later Lieutenant Colonel William E. Fairbairn will teach this style in a simple drill for a woman too. We train at Mispeldorn in Aachen Germany HEMA or historical fencing according to F.C. Christmann. His style with the sabre is also based on the same striking mechanics so we feel very comfortable to show you Monstery method.
