I'm with you guys 1000% on having at least some training. I've said for a long time, if the first time you get punched hard is when someone genuinely intends to hurt you, you're in trouble.

I trained about 11 years with an old school fighter from the blood-and-guts karate era. IYKYK. We trained to be warriors. Being punched in the face, or catching a roundhouse kick upside the head, was just another Wednesday night. A cracked rib or a sidekick to the throat was not unheard of. It was a Tae Kwon Do school, with some judo moves mixed in. We didn't grapple on the ground but we did takedowns and throws, so we learned the break-fall until it was a reflex.

I don't get in fights, or in situations where one is likely to start, but I'm pretty sure if someone without serious training punched me (or tried to) I would be more amused than anything else. I would definitely be ready to respond immediately with appropriate force.

Everyone who possibly can should get at least some training, and not at a sissy non-contact school. Get hurt and learn how to fight through it. It can save your life.

Shop staff getting bored. If not behind the counter, he should be checking stock, tidying shelves, etc., not using his phone. If he wants to usd his phone, stay behind the counter. He increased his risk. We're becoming obsessed with the fluff available online.
