Why Diets Fail – The Body’s Self Defense System

The epic failure of diets is well documented. 6 out of every 7 people who are overweight or obese will lose a significant amount of weight in their lifetime, but 95% of them will regain all the weight they lost within 3 years. Of those, 1/3-2/3 will regain more weight than they lost. Why does this happen? The body has evolved to activate an elaborate self defense system to prevent you from starving yourself and this system predisposes us to weight regain. In this series, I will talk about how this system works and how to minimize the negative effects of the self defense system. Diets fail because they focus on losing fat rather than making your body healthier. Layne, are u ready for Sep 28th?

Hellthrasher says:

Layne came back with a vengeance ! New series with some new fancy hilarious editing/snips and an impressive giant white board

Do you have thoughts on lipo- getting rid of many fat cells like a diet doesn’t , do u think it would impact metabolism?

Jason says:

So is dieting and then reverse dieting the same as yo yo dieting?

Valerie Noelle says:

DIRTY T. says:

Good video Layne….Keep up the good work and dropping all that science for us to be "in the know".

Justin Anderson says:

I love the editing in this video. At some point though, I'd recommend getting a clip on mic. Gets rid of most of the reverb in the room.

Awesome info as always Layne.

William Grazione says:

Glad to see you back Biolayne!

This is a bit off-topic, but hey, you know your shit so why not ask… Do you know of any reliable information on diet and eczema?

Any kind of internet search only comes up with mommy blogger posts and anti-vaxxer horseshit.

Pubmed has one study that evaluated online content and came out with a very cheerful, "Ultimately, our results indicated that most of the information that can be found online regarding diet and these dermatologic conditions is unfounded and/or misleading."

Joshua Gordon says:

Thanks. Good content.

Tom K says:

This series comes at an opportune time for me. I'm trying to lose again. Lost 40 lbs before. Ended up putting it all back. Eventually added another 10 on top of that and am now trying to lose more.

Down 25 lbs, but stalled already and not really sure precisely what to do since I'm already in a pretty calorie reduced state as it is, so this is exactly the kind of stuff I need to hear right about now.
